Sky Warn Recognition Day at the North Platte Weather Service is coming up on Friday, December 6, and Saturday, December 7. All are welcome and radios will be ready and waiting to participate in Sky Warn station contacts.
It took most of the summer hunting garage sales and flea markets for suitable pieces to assemble the project at scrap prices, but I finally got the pedestrian mobile station up and running. Early tests found a lot of ergonomics needing refinement. The first full test with 10 and 20-meter antennas was about 2 hours with great results. The first contact was Puerto Rico with a 59 signal report. Battling the pile-ups with just 10 watts can be trying but ended up with two contacts on each band with surprise and great comments.
