The National Weather Service hosted its annual SKYWARN Recognition Day on December 6-7. Hams around the country set up radio stations on all bands and modes to make as many contacts in 24 hours starting at 6:00pm CT Friday. It’s a fun event that also shows the ability of hams to contact stations across the country when weather disasters occur. Kevin KØKDC provided the station equipment and a 40 foot tower. New this year was the addition of using Charlie NØUGO and Randy’s NØIQ repeater with IRLP link to connect coast to coast and around the country. Randy and Kevin kicked off the event Friday night and the rest of us held down the station Saturday. A total of 17 contacts were made along with a lot of rag chewing amongst ourselves. Pizza and treats were served, compliments of the Weather Service guys.

Merry Christmas and Happy CQing.
